Were there any friendly fire incidents involving American submarines, aircraft carriers, or battleships during World War II or World War I?

Here’s another one:

USS Pompano was mistakenly bombed by aircraft from USS Enterprise but managed to escape.

USS Tang pictured above, was an ace US submarine… until she literally sank herself with a circular running torpedo.

How do individuals become targeted individuals? Is it solely due to experiencing stalking or harassment, or are there other factors involved?

Oh yeah. These kinds of incidents are quite common even in modern war, let alone back then.
